Cobalt Studio mentioned in Contratiempo

Contratiempo NFP started as a monthly Spanish-language magazine conceived in April 2003 by a group of Latino writers living in Chicago, and it is now a 501(c)3 tax exempt literary and publishing center whose mission is to preserve and highlight the cultural identity and contributions of the Spanish-speaking Latino population of the United States.
Contratiempo fulfills its mission by publishing revista contratiempo, conducting creative writing workshops, promoting Spanish-language literature written in Chicago through its Ediciones Vocesueltas imprint, and working collaboratively with other educational, literary and cultural organizations to present events relative to this mission.

GAG gig: CLOSING RECEPTION

GAG gig Closing Reception

November 7th
6-10pm

FREE

Open to the public. Last chance to see this exhibition.

GAG gig explores humor in various contexts, presenting it in darkness and in light. The pieces in this show look at the merit of so-called "funny art" within the broader art world. They delve into more abstract concepts about emotion, the body, and criticism.

Matt Geer: Neo Minimalist Portraits

Matt Geer, a Chicago artist for over a decade. A self described ''Artopuss" with tentacles coiling around various styles, utilizing different mediums. His work is often broken up into separate series of works, allowing him to explore each obsession to its end.

Collage Installation by Victoria Martinez

Cobalt is proud to present an artist whose outdoor installations have graced the Pilsen community over the past few years. A featured part of the First Fridays on 21st St., Art Walk, Victoria Martinez.

Victoria Martinez is an interdisciplinary artist and educator who explores installation, site-specific intervention, collage, and textiles. She will be responding to Cobalt Studio’s brick wall by creating an installation with local Pilsen materials, which include fabric, paper, super market signs, tarps, and found objects granted by the urban environment. The project will be led by intuition and present an abstract version of sweets such as cake or pan dulce.

The Installation will be unveiled Friday, June 5, 2015 on the Cobalt Studio wall facing 21st Street.

Also that evening as part of Cobalt's contribution to the 1st Friday on 21st Street Pilsen Art Walk join us for a reception of HOT for O.S.  at 6pm in the Cobalt Studio exhibition space.

Hot for O.S. is a tongue in cheek title for a show with artists who work with new technology. While we all are staring at our phones and tablets during our bus or train trips, these artists use new media and create artwork that is unique and challenge the norms of how we experience art.

Regarding the title, O.S. or Object Sexuality is a sexual fetish for people who fall in love or feel strong feelings of attraction to inanimate objects. Although these artists are not necessarily in love with their objects(or are they?), they do have a passion.
